The US and UK affiliate consensus issued their results earlier this month and revealed some surprising differences between the US and UK. Below are my top five:
1. Go Females: There are more women in Affiliate Marketing in the US (28%) then the UK (18%).
2. We’re a country full of heath freaks. Health, Fitness and Sports rule in the US with 41% of affiliates promoting these type of offers.
3. Not like our worldly neighbors where Travel is King. 33% of UK affiliates promote travel offers.
4. US hearts Google. UK, not so much. More UK affiliates were threatened rather than thrilled by Google’s arrival in the performance marketing space.
5. PPC is the SEM of choice for US affiliates, while SEO is the favorite in the UK.
We share an ocean, a language and a love/hate relationship. We also share the following:
1. An upbeat mentality about the current recession. Could be the 3pm pints, but the UK share the same opportunistic mentality as us over here in the US.
2. Nobody likes secrets. Both US and UK want more transparency between them and networks/merchants.
3. Affiliates want more from their networks/merchants. Both US and UK want more communication and understanding about what’s going on with their offers. US affiliates also want more incentives and rewards. Perhaps the Brits are too well mannered to demand anything of the such!
