When it comes to search ads, 2009 is shaping up to be almost Dickensian in nature, as prospects look equally bleak and uplifiting.
According to an online survey conducted by Microsoft (which maybe should be taken with a grain of salt), a majority of small businesses don’t engage in paid search marketing and of that majority, 90% have never even attempted it. 81% of those surveyed expressed doubt as to whether or not search marketing was the best use of marketing budgets.
Bleak.
But there is a general consensus amongst experts that search marketing will grow at a clip of roughly 15-20% and many small businesses still anticipate spending as much on advertising in 2009 as they did in 2008. Barclay’s is also expecting a 5% growth in lead generation, with an even larger overall online advertising growth in 2010.
Uplifting!
