During the international Olympic Games, prestigious judges representing countries across the globe evaluate competitors (gymnasts, divers, skaters) and determine winners and losers. In graduate schools, acclaimed and extolled scholars and academics decide the fates of doctoral candidates. In the blogosphere, we hand the judging, critiquing, scrutinizing, rating, and awarding over to you, the users. In that tradition of user-generated content and online community building, Unique Blogdesigns has launched ThemeWars, where the “top designers battle and the community votes for the top WordPress themes.”
The basic idea behind this WordPress theme store is pretty simple. But Theme Wars isn’t just any old theme store. Each week, blog designers submit original designs into the “Weekly War.” These designs then go to battle. Throughout the week, the anyone can participate in the Weekly War by voting for their favorite blog theme idea. The top two designs which the community votes for are built and sold in Unique Blogdesign Theme Store and the winning designer receives a percentage cut each time their winning theme sells! Additionally, winner designers earn a spot on our “Featured Designers” page.
What does this mean for bloggers? The blogging community will now have access to “a wide range of themes from a wide range of different designers.” And because the only requirement for submitting a design is that the work and theme be original, anyone, from anywhere in the world, can compete, each week for an opportunity to sell their unique blog.
So exercise those blogger rites and go vote for your weekly favorites. It’s up to each of you to give your verdicts (not some stuffy elitist judge in a suit and tie). If you’re feeling creative and artistic, why not submit a design idea? You never who might be the next blossoming artist. And keep your eyes out for a proliferation of cool new WordPress themes.
