Lessons from Affiliate TactixX

Post written by: Megan Conahan, VP of Advertising Sales, Direct Agents

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to attend and speak at Affiliate TactixX, a leading German affiliate marketing show, organized by explido and run in conjunction with Internet World in Munich. This year, a record number of affiliates, agencies, networks and merchants attended the show to learn more about this growing medium.

After getting over my initial jet lag, I had the chance to speak in more detail to the organizers of the show as well as other conference speakers at a networking event the night before the show began. What really struck me most throughout the conversations that evening was how similar the US and German affiliate markets are to each other.

As the rest of the conference unfolded, this theory was further proven as I continued to interact with other affiliates and merchants during the coffee breaks and networking events. After my session about Affiliate Marketing in the United States, several German affiliates and merchants came over with questions about the US market but also questions about the German market. Even those who had no intention of marketing in the US mentioned that they see Germany facing similar challenges that the US market faces and they wanted tips on how to avoid some of the affiliate marketing pit falls within such a rapidly evolving marketplace.

The international market is facing similar struggles that we face in the US market including email segmentation, brand protection, privacy, mobile affiliate marketing and more. While we may be in different countries with different cultures and laws, it is very important for us to share tips, ideas and success stories about affiliate marketing that may apply to our own work. The Affiliate TactixX show gave me that experience.
